WHO names mpox a global health emergency as cases surge in Africa

The World Health Organization has named mpox a public health emergency of international concern for the second time, as outbreaks of the virus grip Africa. Mpox, which began spreading in 2022, is known for causing painful, pus-filled lesions and can lead to severe illness or death.
